Depression can occur in children, teens, and adults – male and female. Some types of depression may not fit this definition exactly. Suggested Ways to use

Depression is a common illness and essential oils may help relieve the symptoms. For milder depression Lavender, Sandalwood, and Ylang Ylang among others, are effective. Many people have had great experiences with these oils because of the aroma alone. The aromatic properties of some essential oils can elevate mood and balance emotions. One aroma therapy recipe suggested by aromatherapists is to mix the following oils and diffuse them:

2-3 drops Orange
2-3 drops Peppermint
2-3 drops Melissa or Black Pepper

This mixture can also also be applied topically as a foot massage, back massage, or on the chest. Rotating the orange oil for grapefruit or lemon can be beneficial too. You may find that a different citrus oil is more effective.

Also some people have found putting 2-3 drops of both cinnamon and grapefruit in a cup and in haling the aroma from the cup can help greatly. Do not apply cinnamon topically because it can cause skin irritation.

Some studies suggest Melissa oil and/or Black Pepper oil help relieve Postpartum Depression.

Precautions: If severe states of depression occur or suicide attempts, the help of a qualified licensed professional is highly recommended.
