3 Essential Oils For Making Home Made Cleaners

woman-cleaningOne of the most popular of oil that people use to clean with is lemon oil. Lemon oil can help get rid of stains from clothes/carpets, kill bacteria, get rid of sticker residue, get rid of permanent marker writing on most surfaces, and make clothes look cleaner, to name a few. Lemon oil is also one of the least expensive oils that essential oil companies sell. With lemon oil you don’t need much to do a lot. Just a drop or two can go a long way.

Essential oils offer a great alternative to cleaners with toxic chemicals. With essential oils, rubber gloves or a mask are not needed to clean safely. With essential oils you can make your own cleaners while still getting great, if not better, results from cleaning with them. Many oils will even help leave your home smelling clean and fresh. Peppermint oil is also another great oil. It helps kill bacteria and to many the smell is great. The aroma of peppermint can also help you think more clearly and concentrate, making cleaning more of a bearable task.

Another great oil is Tea Tree oil. Tea tree oil is well known for its anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties. If you ever have any problems with mold in the shower put some drops of Tea Tree oil in a spray bottle with water and spray it on troubled areas to get rid of mold.

Many home made cleaners made with essential oils are often combined with other natural and more basic ingredients such as cider/white vinegar, baking soda, oil, salt, soap and water. Using essential oils to help clean your home can save you money and keep your family safe from toxic chemicals. Read below to find out what cleaners can be made using these 3 essential oils.

Hard Floor Cleaner

Put a 1/2 cup of vinegar in a bucket of water then add 5 – 10 drops of lemon, 1 – 2 drops of peppermint, and 1 – 2 drops of tea tree. Also consider adding any other citrus oils to help leave a wonderful smell such as orange oil or grapefruit oil.

Natural Window and Kitchen Cleaner

Add 10 drops of lemon oil to 1 cup of white vinegar in a spray bottle. Shake the bottle before use. Use on windows, stove tops, counter tops, and sinks.

Natural Hard Wood Polish

Add 10 drops of lemon essential oil to a mixture of 3 tablespoons of vinegar and jojoba oil. Apply modestly to a soft rag and then rub the rag on the hard wood areas of your home. Use caution on some wood because it may remove wood varnish.

Natural Carpet Deodorizer

To make a natural yet effective carpet freshener add around 20 drops of lemon essential oil to 1 cup of baking soda in a bowl or plastic container of your choice. Mix the oils and baking soda well. Let it sit in a sealed container over night (12 hours) to allow the oil to infuse with the baking soda. Sprinkle the over the carpet, especially in trouble areas, wait for an hour or two then vacuum it up.
